MegaCab Teaser

teaser-tv.jpgYes, that’s right, it’s time for quick preview of that project I mentioned a while back.  I have had a little time to build and gather and buy components for my crazy MegaCab.  I know, you are wondering to yourself, “Why is it a MegaCab?”  Well my dear readers, it’s because the screen is so huge!  Well, 36″ huge in CRT format.  It’s heavy and huge.  Of course, our nice flat panel screens these days get larger and cheaper, but the sheer presence of the old school set makes it seem huge even when greater visual surface area can be had.  And, because of the weight of the beast, I need a sturdy place to rest it, so I am building a box from scrap 2×4 pieces ripped from used pallets.  teaser-cabframe.jpgThe box will also have a subwoofer in the rear compartment.  Yeah, I am not content to just build a shelf when I can add something like subs to it.  Two 12″ subs, a 300 watt BASH amp, some wires, and a couple of ports to be exact.

teaser-subs.jpgOk, so I have a big old TV, a big box to set it on, and some subs in the box; so what’s a guy gonna do with that?  Why, dig the old XBox out of the closet, hook up some DDR dance pads, add some speakers, and I have a full Dance Party waiting to happen!  Ok, it’s not real dancing, but it’s good exercise for us computer guys and I actually like that game.  Mock me all you like, but once you are hooked, it’s like crack.   I am really hoping the subs sound decent and I have yet to acquire speakers for the setup.  I still have quite a bit of work to do.  As you can see from my attached pics, I only have parts and a base framework so far.  The next few weekends are going to be filled with working on my house and not my MegaCab, unfortunately.    Oh well, real work first then play time later.   Sometimes it seems like my hobbies are work, as well.  It’s worth it in the end!   Let me know what you think…
